Supporting the full implant treatment process - from planning to final restoration with solutions from Dentsply Sirona Implants
May 2017—With
the comprehensive Dentsply Sirona Implants solutions portfolio, dental
professionals can rest assured that they have the support
they need for the full implant treatment process to restore function,
esthetics and confidence to their patients.
The
implant treatment process contains many steps—from imaging and
diagnosis, treatment planning and implant surgery to abutment
selection, restorative solutions and patient follow-up. Dentsply Sirona
Implants presents several new solutions to their already extensive
portfolio to delegates at their second World Summit Tour stop in San
Diego.
“Whether thought leader, researcher, educator, Specialist,
GP, or laboratory technician—while there are obvious unique
differences and needs to be recognized, there is also a resounding
commonality in the ease, precision, quality, speed and peace of mind
that most dental professionals look for—ultimately for
the benefit of the patients they serve,” says John Voskuil, VP and
General Manager, Dentsply Sirona Implants, NA. “This is why we are
committed to putting our customers first and to providing comprehensive
end-to-end solutions that drive better, safer and
faster dental care. It is exciting to be a part of an organization that
can deliver on that promise and to be able to make a positive impact on
the quality of life of others.”

SmartFix®
concept
SmartFix
is a treatment concept that can provide edentulous patients with an
immediate fixed, full-arch prosthesis, supported
by a minimum four implants. The SmartFix concept includes an angulated
abutment that comes together with a short and flexible abutment holder
for easier handling. The option of angulating the screw access channel
through the prosthesis opens up for ideal esthetics
and function.
This concept is an easy and cost-effective treatment that offers improved treatment satisfaction for the patient and practice
growth for the dental professional.
“The
SmartFix concept has streamlined the treatment of my edentulous
patients desiring a fixed prosthesis,” says Dr. Gary
Jones, Board Certified Oral Surgeon in Fayetteville, NC. “The integrity
of the balance base abutment-implant connection and its versatility
with positioning, provide for a more efficient surgical procedure. My
patients are overwhelmed with this life-changing,
predictable treatment.”
SmartFix
concept is now available for the Astra Tech Implant System EV product
line in the US. Unique features include a holder made of Peek plastic
for easier handling, especially in the posterior,
and compatibility with the OsseoSpeed Profile EV, which when placed at
an angle in the posterior, can further eliminate the need for bone
reaming procedures. Multibase EV abutments are compatible with Nobel
Biocare Multi-unit prosthetic cylinders and bridge
screws. SmartFix concept is already available for Xive and Ankylos
implant systems.
OsseoSpeed®
Profile implants (Astra Tech Implant System)
Almost
40% of all implant sites present with a sloped alveolar ridge after
healing.* The OsseoSpeed Profile EV implant (Astra
Tech Implant System) is a uniquely shaped, patented implant
specifically designed for just this clinical situation. It is designed
to follow the natural shape of the bone, supporting the soft tissue by
preserving marginal bone 360 degrees around the implant.
In addition, it can help to eliminate the need for bone augmentation
procedures. In fact, a reported 58% of all sloped implant sites have a
reduced need for augmentation when using the OsseoSpeed Profile implant.
Dr.
David Barack, a Periodontist from Skokie, IL states, “Since 1987, I
have experienced the joys and frustrations of evolving
implant technologies. The OsseoSpeed Profile EV implant has been one of
the most impactful developments in my practice. I now place implants
with optimal bone utilization, prevention of marginal bone loss, and
position to neighboring teeth.”
Newly published results**
on
OsseoSpeed Profile implants show bone preservation, increased soft
tissue volume and regain of keratinized mucosa in patients with
compromised soft tissue conditions.
PD Dr. Robert Nölken, co-author of the study, explains “We have seen a great deal of improvement on the peri-implant soft
tissue in our research follow-up. This allows us to achieve a good esthetic outcome for patients with thin biotypes.”
This
prospective, 2-year follow-up, multicenter study—investigates
OsseoSpeed Profile EV implant survival rate, soft and
hard tissue maintenance following placement in healed sites of the
posterior mandible. Twenty-four centers, 184 patients and 238 implants
are included in the study.
Digital implant solutions
Atlantis®
CustomBase solution
The
Atlantis CustomBase solution combines an Atlantis Abutment and an
Atlantis Crown with a screw access hole. The crown
is cemented to the abutment extra orally and then all is screw-retained
into the implant, avoiding potential complications caused by excess
cement. The crown can be designed in the customer’s own software by
ordering a unique digital file, with the screw hole
indicated.
“Atlantis
CustomBase gives our laboratory the ability to fabricate a
screw-retained restoration with a custom designed titanium
sub-structure,” states Conrad Rensberg, Owner and Head of Dental
Implants, Absolute Dental Services, North Carolina. “Incorporating
Atlantis CustomBase has greatly reduced post-delivery de-bonding and
fracturing between the restoration and interface. The Atlantis
CustomBase in gold-shaded titanium allows for brilliant color
reproduction in our high translucent materials,”
Since
the Virtual Atlantis Design (VAD) software takes the edentulous space
with surrounding teeth and soft tissue anatomy
into consideration, the Atlantis CustomBase solution is a premium,
single-tooth, screw-retained solution providing patient-specific design
of core height and optimized retention and design. This provides a
result that replicates natural tooth function and
esthetics. Moreover, the Atlantis CustomBase solution provides
customized emergence profile for enhanced soft-tissue management and
placement of material junction considering biological principles.
Prosthodontist,
Dr. Mark Montana, Tempe, AZ, shares his clinical perspective. “Atlantis
CustomBase
provides customized emergence profile and optimal design of the axial
walls, resulting in a restoration that is specific to a patient’s tissue
and with a reliable cement interface, when compared to stock Ti-base
alternatives.”
The Atlantis CustomBase solution is available for all major implant systems and is fully FDA compliant.
Atlantis®
connectivity with CEREC®
Omnicam
The
upcoming integrated connectivity between Atlantis WebOrder and Sirona
Connect SW will make the ordering of all Atlantis
abutments solutions easily accessible for the CEREC Omnicam users. The
digital impression is taken with either a ScanPost or an Atlantis IO
FLO.
