Carestream Dental Equipment Helps Provide Dental Care at No Charge to Uninsured and Under-Insured California Residents

ATLANTA – Carestream Dental served as a premier sponsor for the CDA Cares volunteer dental clinic hosted by the California Dental Association (CDA) Foundation and CDA on Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego. Volunteers took more than $124,000 worth of dental periapical, bitewing and panoramic images with equipment provided by Carestream Dental, while the entire event provided more than $1.6 million in charitable dental services to 2,203 people who experience barriers to dental care.

The CDA Cares program strives to improve the oral health of uninsured and under-insured California residents and raise awareness for the need for affordable dental coverage. Dental professionals and community volunteers come together at each event to provide dental services at no charge. These volunteers perform a number of procedures, including cleanings, fillings and extractions, as well as provide education on maintaining good oral health.

“Carestream Dental employees volunteered for this event, and despite working long hours, they all enjoyed it and left feeling energized,” said Matt Hendrickson, U.S. orthodontic director for Carestream Dental. “The dental care we provide at this event literally changes lives, and it’s amazing to be a part of that. There’s no doubt that this experience will carry over into what we do on a daily basis in the office.”

Along with volunteer employees, Carestream Dental supported the San Diego event by providing 12 RVG 6100 digital radiography sensors, two CS 8000 digital panoramic systems and one CS 9000 panoramic imaging system. These products contributed to more than 2,300 of the total 12,518 procedures completed during the event.

“Carestream Dental and the rest of our sponsors are the backbone of CDA Cares,” said Don Rollofson, DMD, CDA Foundation chair. “Without their help, we wouldn’t be able to provide the services these patients need. Through our combined efforts, we’ve had a tremendous impact throughout California to raise awareness for the importance of oral health and provide care to more than 8,000 patients since 2012.”

Carestream Dental will support upcoming CDA Cares events, which will be held in Vallejo, Calif., from April 25 – 26, 2014, and Pomona, Calif., from Nov. 21 – 22, 2014.
