Carestream Dental Marks First Year as Freestanding Digital Dental Technology Company

ATLANTA—Carestream Dental is breaking with tradition for a good reason. The traditional one-year anniversary gift may be paper, but the independent dental technology company can’t help but celebrate with all things digital.

“It’s been an exciting first year for Carestream Dental, full of transformation and growth,” Lisa Ashby, CEO, Carestream Dental, said. “I’m proud of all the company and its employees have achieved, and I’m grateful for the doctors and partners around the world who trust us to deliver the solutions they need to change their patients’ lives.”

Carestream Dental became a freestanding dental technology company focused solely on digital solutions on Sept. 1, 2017, when it was acquired by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) and CareCapital Advisors Limited. The transition has made the company more nimble and better able to respond to shifting corporate dynamics and new patient demands in the field of oral healthcare.

“We are very proud of our close collaboration with the Carestream Dental team, which over the past year has strengthened our belief that the company is extremely well positioned to meet the dynamic needs of the global oral healthcare industry with innovative products and high-quality services,” Derek Strum, CD&R Partner, said.

In its first year as a freestanding company, Carestream Dental delivered several all-new solutions thanks to continued investment in R&D and commitment to the voice of the customer. This technology helps doctors make more confident diagnoses, perform well-planned procedures, provide better patient communication and offer faster treatments.

As a testament to the quality and innovation of Carestream Dental’s solutions, its existing technology also received industry recognition this year. The CS 8100SC 3D imaging system was honored with an Edison Award and the CS 3600 intraoral scanner outperformed competitors, as well as traditional impressions, in a 2018 study on finish line accuracy. The company also surpassed a significant sales milestone by shipping out the 20,000th unit of the CS 8100 Family.

In yet another twist on tradition, Carestream Dental isn’t expecting any presents for its one-year anniversary. Instead, the company is gifting the oral healthcare community with a series of thought leadership ebooks throughout the month of September in honor of its anniversary. They can be downloaded at carestreamdental.com/ebooks.

“We don’t want to just celebrate the company’s successes over the past year but celebrate the doctors, team members and industry partners who helped make this year such a success” Ashby said. “These ebooks turn the idea of the ‘paper’ one-year anniversary gift on its head by taking a digital approach.”

This may be Carestream Dental’s first year as an independent digital dental technology company, but its roots go deep. Eastman Kodak, Trophy and PracticeWorks are all legacy brands that make up the company’s 120 year-history. Looking forward, Carestream Dental will continue to transform dentistry, simplify technology and change lives for another century or more.
