Planmeca Romexis® 7 software optimises dental workflows with integrated AI

Planmeca is thrilled to introduce Planmeca Romexis® 7 software, featuring a range of integrated AI-powered tools for streamlining daily workflows in dental practices. From automatic recognition and segmentation of anatomies to tooth numbering and automated implant planning, Romexis 7 allows dental professionals to focus fully on patient care. Romexis 7 will debut at IDS 2025 in Cologne.

Planmeca Romexis® is the leading software platform for dentistry, supporting all types of dental imaging from 2D and 3D to CAD/CAM. It offers a comprehensive set of tools for diagnosis, analysis, and treatment planning. By making all clinical imaging data available in a single, easy-to-use system, Romexis enables smooth daily workflows in dental practices.

Building on the redesigned user interface introduced in Romexis 6, Planmeca Romexis® 7 elevates usability to the next level by integrating AI capabilities directly into the software, making AI-powered tools accessible to all users as a standard feature. The tools are designed to complement the expertise of dental professionals, making patient assessments and treatment planning smoother and more efficient.

The integrated AI of Romexis 7 acts as a smart assistant, automatically handling time-consuming tasks while unlocking new possibilities in dental treatment planning. For instance, the AI in Romexis 7 automatically recognises and segments major oral anatomies and detects the mandibular nerve in CBCT images. The anatomies are presented as surface models in distinct colours for easy visualisation and optimised treatment planning.

Romexis 7 also introduces completely new AI features, including the automatic tooth numbering of periapical and bitewing X-rays. This reduces clicks and automates routine tasks, such as rotating intraoral X-rays. It also allows users to filter images based on tooth presence, organise intraoral X-ray studies, and navigate dental images by tooth number.

In addition, Romexis 7 supports users at various stages of their workflows by automating repetitive tasks. The software intelligently proposes implant treatment plans, considering the adjacent teeth and their roots, maxilla and mandible bone, mandibular nerve, and the restoration. For implant guide design, Romexis 7 automatically fuses digital impressions and CBCT, detecting the area for the surgical guide based on gingival line detection. New AI-powered tools also enable automatic 3D cephalometric analyses through automatic landmark detection. In addition, Romexis can automatically present views of the temporomandibular joints through automatic condyle detection.

Furthermore, Romexis 7 introduces a language model-based smart chat to help users maximise the software’s potential. This virtual assistant provides concise answers to day-to-day software operations using the Romexis manual as source content.

"By integrating AI capabilities directly into our Romexis platform, we are empowering dental professionals to work more efficiently and focus on what truly matters – providing exceptional patient care. Romexis 7 is a unique software that takes dental imaging tools to the next level,” says Helianna Puhlin-Nurminen, Vice President for Digital Imaging and Applications at Planmeca.

Other Romexis highlights at IDS include theRomexis® VR solution, introduced in the latest software release. Romexis VR is an invaluable tool for cases requiring a comprehensive understanding of patient morphology and anatomical relations, allowing dental professionals to view and visualise 3D data in true three dimensions. The Romexis VR application also enables visualising implant planning in virtual reality, using extensive implant libraries from over 130 manufacturers.

Planmeca Viso® enters a new era with three advanced new imaging units

For 20 years, Planmeca has been breaking new ground in dental 3D imaging. The company’s R&D has been innovating cutting-edge imaging devices as well as harnessed CBCT technology for dental diagnostics and treatment planning since 2005. Now, Planmeca is excited to lead the industry to the next 20 years of dental imaging and technological advancement, as spearheaded by the Planmeca Viso® product family. The company is pleased to announce three powerful new Planmeca Viso imaging systems, which will all debut at IDS in Cologne on 25–29 March 2025.

The Planmeca Viso® G1 imaging unit is the latest addition to the range of Planmeca Viso® CBCT devices and a genuine powerhouse that has been designed to meet the diverse needs of today’s dental clinics. The unit comes with a smaller volume size and has been furnished with top-of-the-line sensor technology, an intuitive graphical user interface, as well as effortless patient positioning.

The robust and reliable Planmeca Viso G1 is able to produce consistently great images even with heavy daily workloads. With a Field of View (FOV) up to 11 x 11 cm, Planmeca Viso G1 offers all the essential imaging programs, from panoramic to 3D dental and TMJ imaging programs. Additionally, the device can be equipped with an effective one-shot cephalostat, adding still more capabilities for cephalometric analyses and orthodontic treatment planning.

As with all Planmeca Viso 3D units, the new unit is further complemented by several proprietary solutions. These includePlanmeca CALM®, Planmeca’s revolutionary algorithm for motion artefact correction, and the scientifically proven Planmeca Ultra Low Dose™ protocol, which enables CBCT imaging at significantly lower effective patient doses without a statistical reduction in image quality.

At the same time, the Planmeca Viso family is also expanding into the world of 2D imaging with two new devices. Planmeca Viso® 2D Pro and Planmeca Viso® 2D Classic are two incredible imaging units that make Planmeca’s tried-and-true Viso technology available to 2D imaging users around the world. Both combine an intuitive user interface with easy patient positioning and phenomenal image quality for a truly seamless user experience.
