The Society of American Indian Dentists (SAID) offers scholarships for American Indian/Alaska native (AI/AN) undergraduate students to attend a prep program of choice to help with studying for the Dental Admission Test (DAT). Awardees will also receive coaching and mentorship opportunities, as well as online study resources.
Awardees are expected to take the DAT within 6 months of beginning and apply to at least 3 dental schools.
Eligible applicants are AI/AN, SAID undergraduate student members that are interested in attending dental school. SAID recommends that students complete the prerequisite courses (biology, chemistry, organic chemistry) prior to taking the DAT exam and submit a dental school application at least one year before expected start date.
The award covers:
- DAT prep course as agreed upon by student and SAID
- Travel and hotel to DAT testing location if it is outside the student's locale
- Testing fee
- Travel to and participation in approved workshop for pre-dental students, if not covered by the workshop host
- Coaching and mentorship opportunities
- Peer-to-peer mentorship opportunities
- Travel, room (double-occupancy with another SAID student), conference meals,
