Dentsply Sirona launches X-Smart® Pro+ and Reciproc™ Blue in the US, delivering a one-file endodontic solution

The X-Smart® Pro+ endodontic motor is equipped with an integrated apex locator and features a genuine reciprocating motion. Reciproc Blue is a universal and flexible endodontic file designed for one-file endodontics.

Charlotte. Dentsply Sirona, the world’s largest manufacturer of professional dental products and technologies, has delivered two new endodontic solutions for dentists in the US with the launch of the X-Smart Pro+ endodontic motor with integrated apex locator and the universal Reciproc Blue file. X-Smart Pro+ drives the genuine reciprocating motion of Reciproc Blue, a file designed to enable shaping root canals without an initial glidepath in most cases1 – for a simple one file endodontic workflow.

X-Smart Pro+: The right partner for endodontic files

X-Smart Pro+ is a powerful and portable motor that delivers up to 7.5 N·cm and 3,000 rpm, designed for optimal performance with Dentsply Sirona file systems in both reciprocating and continuous modes and can be used with the following files:

Reciprocating file systems (WaveOne® Gold, Reciproc Blue): Genuine and fine-tuned reciprocating motion for precise angulation, acceleration, speed, and reliability.

- Continuous rotation file systems (ProTaper Gold ® as well as ProTaper Ultimate®): Dedicated power and torque for performance across a full range of anatomies.

- TruNatomy®: Constant, stable speed control at low torque for procedural control.

X-Smart Pro+’s integrated apex locator with Dynamic Accuracy™ technology enables direct length measurement during active shaping with an automatic auto-reverse function to keep the file on the desired target. Meanwhile, the touchscreen interface is intuitive and easy to use, with upgradable firmware and an integrated LED on a mini-contra angle head for great visibility and access. Following its launch in select markets last year, X-Smart Pro+ has already seen success internationally, with the motor winning an iF Design Award for its cohesive user interface design.

“X-Smart Pro+ is the result of 150 years of endodontic experience at Dentsply Sirona,” said Arjan de Roy, Group Vice President Essential Dental Solutions at Dentsply Sirona. “Our entire portfolio of endodontic solutions is designed to enable easy, efficient, and flexible workflows – giving dentists the tools they need to confidently provide the best possible care for their patients.”

Reciproc Blue: A universal and flexible file for the majority of cases

Reciproc Blue is the latest innovation in the Reciproc family of NiTi files – which were designed to enable root canal preparation using only one mechanical file in reciprocation. The main differentiator of the Reciproc Blue is that clinicians do not need an initial glidepath in most cases1. Additionally, the blue heat-treated NiTi of Reciproc Blue delivers higher resistance to cyclic fatigue, improved centering abilities to reduce canal transportation, and the ability to pre-bend files for easy access to the canal.

Meanwhile, with less likelihood of procedural errorscompared to rotary NiTi systems, the workflow is both easy to learn and easy to teach. Over 650 peer-reviewed studies have been published on the Reciproc family. A compelling Scientific Manual is available for download. “The one-file shaping workflow of Reciproc Blue and X-Smart Pro+ has been a complete game changer for my practice,” said Dr. Manor Haas, endodontic specialist from Toronto, Canada and DS key opinion leader. “Every dentist wants to advance with confidence and achieve better and more predictable outcomes. Being able to shape without the need for an initial glidepath has made root canal preparation much easier, saving me precious time and energy in the majority of cases.”

Based on treatment of MB2 canals of more than 300 patients. The aim was to assess the frequency in which Reciproc R25 was able to directly scout and reach working lengths in comparison with hand files. In the hand file group working length was successfully reached in 57.48%. In the Reciproc R25 group the working length was successfully reached in 85.63% of cases. Internal data on file.
