(Charlotte, NC, October 3, 2023) – For nonprofit dental clinics providing care to children at free and reduced rates, every penny counts. Millions of children across the U.S. struggle to access affordable dental care due to financial barriers and a shortage of dental care providers, especially those that accept state-funded dental coverage. For these kids, the safety-net clinics that serve them make a tremendous difference in their oral health.
Two such clinics, the KinderSmile Foundation in Bloomfield, New Jersey, and The Community Dental Center of Greater Los Angeles in California, recently received donated restorative products from Cosmedent totaling more than $159,000. Last year, these clinics served a combined total of more than 7,000 kids. The donation was made to help them provide care to even more children in need in the months to come.
“We are very grateful for this wonderful donation,” said Dr. Michal Herman of the KinderSmile Foundation. “It will go a long way in enabling us to provide oral health care to underserved communities in New Jersey.”
The clinics received the donations through their membership in the Dental Resource Program of America’s ToothFairy, a nonprofit foundation that helps organizations that serve kids increase their impact with donated dental products and educational resources.
“We just had one of our best years for donated dental product distribution thanks in part to Cosmedent,” said Jill Malmgren, executive director of America’s ToothFairy. “Product donations help our program members free up resources to bring in more staff, extend their hours of operation, and provide quality restorative and preventive dental services to more kids who would otherwise go without. We are so grateful for generous companies like Cosmedent who continue to give year-over-year.” America’s ToothFairy was founded in 2006 with the idea that dental professionals can work together to improve the oral health of children who do not get the dental services they need to be healthy and whose oral health literacy is limited. Since then, the organization has helped its program members dramatically increase access to dental services for more than 9.9 million kids and has provided oral health education resources to reach more than 14 million kids and caregivers across the country.
“We believe that every patient deserves a beautiful smile,” Cosmedent’s President, Michael O’Malley added. “We are delighted to partner with America’s ToothFairy to help safety-net clinics restore their young patients’ smiles to good health with the same high-quality products that their more affluent peers have access to.”
