Upcoming speaker’s presentations at Edentulism2023 given during ZAGA Center Podcast Series with David Pastorino
In the Canary Islands, Spain, on May 4th-6th, world-leading dentists treating edentulous patients will disseminate their knowledge on treatment options during the conference, ‘Edentulism2023’. This conference provides networking opportunities, spurs research innovation, and brings old and new friends together. Being the first of its kind, the ZAGA Centers podcast series invited four of the upcoming speakers to discuss the presentations they prepared for this conference. Dr. Ana Ferro, Dr. Fadi Yassmin and Dr. Costa Nicolopoulos & Dr. Petros Yuvanoglu share their insights into the need for research on complications, the utility of having digital workflows as approaches to dentistry, and the usefulness of ‘smart concepts’ that allow patients to achieve aesthetic and functional goals.
Speaker preparation for Edentulism2023
The surgeons interviewed on the ZAGA Centers podcast, which can be found on Spotify and Apple Podcast, unanimously agreed they would attend Edentulism2023 if they had not been asked to share their experience. Because each dentist has a different viewpoint and role, there are differing preferences and protocols. However, the shared dedication to improving treatment options and clinical outcomes has led to the gradual harmonization of knowledge in overcoming the challenges in dentistry - such as the issue of reducing long-term complications. The ZAGA network and conferences such as Edentulism2023 are therefore crucial for disseminating scientific knowledge on rehabilitating edentulous patients.
Dr. Ana Ferro, practicing in Portugal, clearly states her focus when refining her methods in treating edentulous patients. She states, ‘’ Referring to her process as ‘dynamic’, she continuously follows up on complications to refine her method and follows a ‘strict oral hygiene regime’ in the follow-up to treatment. She says that throughout the treatment, all roles involved, including the patient, are equal and important.
I think the surgery is just the starting point. I tell my patients that the moment I do the surgery it is the moment we marry!

Dr. Fadi Yassmin, practicing in Sydney, Australia, emphasizes the use of digital workflows. By refining a digital approach, he reassures his patients that he can treat them as ‘blank canvases.’ By imagining what their smile would look like if they had not succumbed to an edentulous situation, he is then able to provide ‘ideal aesthetic results.’ Overall, he said, ‘that’s what I love with these cases because we design it from start to finish, and there is no compromise, to within the millimeter, where you want to reach your pink and white aesthetics, the shape, the vertical dimension, the AP distribution, lip support - we just have so many variables that we can control.’
Venue for Edentulism2023, Canary Islands, Spain
Dr. Costas Nikolopoulos and Dr. Petros Yuvanoglu are practicing in Dubai and Greece and give credit to the ZAGA method, created by Carlos Aparicio, for helping them with issues of remote anchorage using zygomatic implants in their practice. Given that many patients that are edentulous have unsuccessfully tried and tested other solutions, they say, ‘it’s important to educate patients, and that’s where the ZAGA concept really helped us a lot’. In their presentation, they will discuss ten guidelines on how to predictably and reproducibly be successful in full arch treatment.
Edentulism2023 will be held at Expomeloneras, Canary Islands. There is an early bird price of 1700 EUR until the 31st of January. Details can be found here.
