Consumer Reports recently posted this chart showing the percentage of laptops that need some serious repair - we believe/hope over the life of the product. These numbers are staggering, as is the fact that there is only a 3% difference between leaders Sony and Lenovo and losers Compaq and Gateway.

At 2am on Sunday, the clocks need to be ** turned back one hour** as we return to Standard time. And for those of you keeping track, this will be the last time this change takes place before Halloween. Starting next year, we’ll be falling back on the first Sunday in November (thanks to the Energy Policy Act of 2005).

Vista system may need more memory

Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Vista computer operating system may need double the amount of main memory recommended by the world's biggest software maker, Dell Inc. Chief Executive Kevin Rollins said.

"I think they tell you maybe 1 gig of memory is OK," Rollins said Thursday at a speech at Shanghai's Jiaotong University, referring to Microsoft's recommendations. "No. Two gigs of memory would be great."

Cell Phone Broken or Got Wet?

If your cell phone gets damaged and you don't have insurance for it then you usually have to buy a new one (without the subsidy). Consider these two services that can repair your cell phone for a lot less.

Fastcpr.com repairs cell phones for a flat fee of $44.95 even phones that have gone for a swim in the toilet.

Cellrepair.us charges $19+ parts and shipping.

So far I have not had to use one of these companies but if the time comes you do have options if the cell phone carrier says they can't or won't repair it.
