Software’s Update Includes PreScan Feature
that Further Automates the Caries Detection Process
ATLANTA – Carestream Dental today announced the availability of Logicon Caries DetectorTM Software version 126.96.36.199. Logicon Software is a computer-aided detection tool that helps dentists identify and treat more interproximal caries at an early stage for improved patient care. The software’s new PreScan feature streamlines the analysis process and interface to improve practice efficiency.
Exclusively designed to work with images captured by Carestream Dental’s best-in-class RVG sensors, Logicon Software is clinically proven to help dentists find more interproximal carious lesions than with traditional methods such as visual examinations of radiographs or oral examinations.*
Using detection and classification algorithms, Logicon Software automatically highlights possible abnormalities in dental radiographs, calculates the probability that decay is present and recommends whether a restoration should be considered. Results are displayed based on a database of histological validated caries. The software extracts image features and correlates them with a database of known caries problems.
New for Logicon Software is the addition of a PreScan feature that further automates caries detection and improves practice efficiency. With a single click, practitioners can use the PreScan feature to automatically scan all interproximal surfaces in a bitewing radiograph and immediately display the results, instead of having to scan one interproximal surface at a time. Dentists then have access to an index of the results that correlate to each interproximal surface. This provides practitioners with an initial assessment of the state of caries.
“The PreScan feature is intended to focus dentists’ attention on the interproximal surfaces they should evaluate further for treatment or monitoring,” said Dr. David Gakenheimer, Logicon Software product line manager for Carestream Dental. “The software makes it easy for dentists to explore sensitive sites in patients’ mouths by saving detailed results for each PreScan surface that they can view and adjust if necessary to find the deepest extent of the caries.”
Additional features of Logicon Software include a region of interest (ROI) adjustment tool that automatically searches to find maximum caries depth, as well as a zoom tool that allows practitioners to focus on specific regions. The software also makes working with third parties easier, as information and screenshots can be quickly sent via the software’s email function.
Logicon Software is fully integrated with CS Dental Imaging Software, and the new PreScan feature is designed for use with RVG 6100 and RVG 6500 bitewing images. This latest version of the software is now available for sale.
“While there is no substitute for personal care and regular dental checkups, our Logicon Software makes examinations more efficient and effective,” said Edward Shellard, D.M.D., chief marketing officer and director of business development for Carestream Dental. “Logicon PreScan provides practitioners with an electronic second opinion. The tool offers a more precise method of determining the presence of caries, streamlines the analysis process and includes an easy-to-understand display that helps dentists better communicate patient conditions and treatment recommendations, which ultimately leads to greater case acceptance.”
